This will be a simple, no-frill post. I don’t have too much to say. I know. Rare. Maybe that is a lie, though. We’ll see how long this post ends up being.

This weekend was pretty introspective. Apparently, I appreciate the art of making myself uncomfortable. So, after a weekend of lovely friends, waiting for trains that never came, and then riding the train with a man who lit a cigarette with a match in front of me inside of the train car and drunk rappers arguing about zodiac signs and of course, rapping– this is what I got:

Sometimes, we are so focused on what is going on or falling apart in our lives. It feels like this is it, and we can’t see past it. Life can get dramatic quick, like a bad episode of The Shahs of Sunset.

I hope to focus on Habakkuk 2:4 this week– “the just shall live by his faith.” Maybe, I can’t see past this, and right now, this is something that consumes me because maybe there isn’t much else to steal the show. Still, I have to learn to see past it– even if fog blocks the horizon. Even if I don’t know exactly what I am looking to beyond this, I have to look away and take time to look above and beyond what is in front of me.

If your life feels more dramatic than reality tv, take a second to take a step back. Think of all the other things you hope to achieve and the people important to you. And also, think about who you are. Gratitude for the things we have is important, but we should also be grateful for who we are and who we are becoming by the grace of God.

And most importantly, think about who God is. We often live life as if we think God doesn’t love us. We won’t understand everything. The just shall live by his faith.

This week, look up; look past; look with hope.

It is Thanksgiving week, and I wanted to say thank you to all of you who take the time to read what I write. That always means so much. It has been a long journey, and it is just beginning. It has been amazing interacting and corresponding with many of you. As I look at the blog stats, I know that it’s not just a number but that so many people have given me an opportunity to dialogue with them and make them think or reflect. That is huge to me. Let’s continue this journey, and I look forward to hearing from you and sharing along the way.

I am grateful for you. Stay golden.

  1. Thank you for writing such beautiful words and motivating us to reflect on many things in life 🙂 Happy thanksgiving and have a wonderful week ahead!

  2. Your words really resonate. As I take a few days to be with family, I realize I get very wrapped in my own issues because I’m so far away from them. Better to be less self absorbed but hard to do when your tribe is not close. Wishing you your tribe and peace this holiday week!

    • Thank you! Have an amazing Thanksgiving with your tribe. 🙂 There is so much to be grateful for. It has been a year filled with goodness, insanity, growth and more to come!

  3. I needed this. In the circle I travel, many are angry with God or believe He doesn’t exist…how could He, right? We are all wounded and broken. But I find my peace when I love Him, and so I thank you for this post. I’m so glad I found you.
