This Week’s Picks: Nov. 17, 2013: The simple life

By: Gabriela Yareliz

The temperature is heatin’ up! Okay. A 60 degree high isn’t so hot, but it’s better than 25 lows. But the weekend is over. We’ll see how the temperature fluctuates now. It has been a fabulous couple of weeks. We’ve been so busy, here in the law school world. I am inevitably thinking of Christmas shopping. I have this weird desire to read an enjoyable book, yet the thought of my eyes on more words and the pages turning, nauseates me. Strange? Law school damage.

Yesterday, I spent some time in Northern New Jersey, just across the bridge from Manhattan. Coming back at night was really lovely. Seeing the city from a car is so different than walking among the tall buildings. You see things differently. The city was lit up. Magical. New Jersey was lovely as well. The neighborhoods reminded me of the ones I grew up in, in MI. The houses close to each other, their cute fences. The colorful trees. It just makes you want to get married, have babies and stand in your front yard with a baby on your hip while wearing an apron. That is the feeling the overwhelms you while you are there.

Anyway, we are back to a busy, busy week filled with interviews, meetings, long hours of class and outlines begging to be written. 😉
Oh, law school…we love you, but you are bringing us down.

2] The Simple Life

Going back to a simpler life based on living by sufficiency rather than excess is not a step backward. Rather, returning to a simpler way allows us to regain our dignity, puts us in touch with the land, and makes us value human contact again.

3] John Oliver is leaving the Daily Show and is getting his own show on HBO! He deserves it. He is one of the best comedians.

12] “Too often we tell ourselves we aren’t smart enough or attractive enough or talented enough to pursue our dreams. We buy into what others say about us, or we put restrictions on ourselves. What’s worse is that when we consider ourselves unworthy, we are putting limits on how God can work through us.” Nick Vujicic, Limitless, pg.6

13] Law school exams coming.

HAVE AN AMAZING & BLESSED WEEK.
